It's always good to see local bands you thought were dead, come back years later, all grown up and ready to kick your ass. So it goes with Audio Out Send, the group formerly known as Lazybones, who have spent the last three years evolving into the talented indie rock band we now hear on their creatively titled full-length album ...or does it explode?
There are some great tunes here, with a broad range of musical technique
and atmosphere, especially the psychedelic distortion-laced "Radio
Elevator Rising" and "Calling On the Girls," mellow semi-acoustic
"Rolling Heads" and seaside piano dirge "of the Luckiest
Alive." Fans of The Rum Diary, Death
Cab for Cutie, or just about anything on the Slowdance
label will immediately fall in love with this album. Even the 'B-side'
tracks are catchy and well arranged, which is a very nice surprise,
since most bands coming straight out of the gate with an 11-track album,
really only have an EP's worth of passable material and the rest is
repetitive filler. Not Audio Out Send.
This
is
a sturdy piece of professional craftsmanship through and through, and
only goes to show that sometimes good things are worth
waiting for. |
